What your drum lessons cover

Every lesson is one-to-one and takes place on a drum kit here at the school. Beginners start with the basics: how to sit at the kit, hold the sticks and keep a steady beat. From there it moves quickly on to grooves and fills that fit real songs, so you’re playing music from the early weeks.

As you progress, lessons build hand and foot coordination, timing, dynamics and reading drum notation, alongside the tracks you want to learn. We teach complete beginners through to advanced players.

Two drum teachers, different strengths

Luke has been drumming for more than 15 years, with live, studio and teaching experience. He came up through rock before studying jazz, and his playing draws on RnB, hip hop and the afrobeat feel he developed through West African percussion. He’s keen to help every student find their own feel, whatever style they play.

Adrian has over 40 years behind him as a professional drummer, with plenty of studio experience. He teaches the Trinity College London drum syllabus and Trinity Rock & Pop up to Grade 8.

Drum lessons for children

Children usually start from around 6. Early lessons set short, achievable goals, like playing along to a favourite song, so progress comes quickly and practice stays fun. Drumming is also a great way to build concentration and coordination. There’s free parking at the rear of the building for drop-off and pick-up.

Drum lessons for adults

Plenty of adults take up drums for the first time, or come back to them after years away. You might want to join a band, play along to the records you love or just have a weekly hour that’s all yours. Evening slots run until 9:30pm, Monday to Thursday.

Grade exams, if you want them

If you’d like a recognised qualification, Adrian can take you through the Trinity drum grades or Trinity Rock & Pop, all the way to Grade 8. Exams are entirely optional, and many students learn purely for enjoyment.

No drum kit yet?

You don’t need one to start. Your lessons are on our kit, so you can try drumming properly before deciding what to buy. Your teacher can suggest ways to practise between lessons and advise on a kit when you’re ready.

FAQs

Questions people ask

What age can my child start drum lessons?

We recommend starting from around 6 years old, although younger children have tried lessons with us in the past. There's no upper age limit, and many of our drummers are adults.

Do I need a drum kit at home?

Not to begin with. Every lesson is played on our kit here at the school, so you can find out whether drums are for you before buying anything. When you're ready, your teacher can advise on what to get for practising at home.

Can I take drum grade exams?

Yes. Adrian teaches the Trinity College London drum syllabus and Trinity Rock & Pop up to Grade 8. Exams are optional, so you can simply learn to play for fun if you prefer.

How much do drum lessons cost?

£18 for 30 minutes or £36 for an hour. You pay as you go when you book online, with no contract or term fees.

When are drum lessons available?

Monday to Thursday between 3pm and 9:30pm, so there are slots after school and after work. Live availability is shown when you book.

What if I need to cancel or move a lesson?

Give at least 48 hours' notice and you can rearrange or cancel through your online account. With less notice than that, the lesson can't be credited or refunded.
