A Grade 8 violinist and former soloist and first violin with Tees Valley Youth Orchestra, focused on giving beginners strong foundations.
Our violin lessons are aimed at beginners and early-stage players. The violin rewards patience, and the first few months matter more than on most instruments: habits formed now, good or bad, stay with you. That’s why lessons are one-to-one, so your teacher can watch closely and correct small things before they become problems.
Your teacher is a Grade 8 violinist with solo and orchestral experience, and will take you from your very first notes at a pace that suits you.
Early lessons focus on the foundations:
You’ll also learn how to look after your violin and bow, and how to tune it.
Children start on a smaller violin sized to fit them, moving up as they grow. Short, regular practice at home makes the biggest difference, and your teacher will set clear, achievable tasks each week so progress is easy to see.
Plenty of adults take up the violin, whether it’s an instrument they always wanted to play or one they’re returning to after many years. Evening slots make it easy to fit lessons around work, and you set the goals.
Lessons follow the ABRSM syllabus, so if you’d like a recognised qualification you’ll be working towards it from the start. Your teacher is also happy to use a different syllabus, or none at all. Plenty of students play simply for enjoyment.
You’ll need your own violin to practise at home. Violins come in several sizes, from small fractional sizes for young children up to full size for teenagers and adults, and getting the right fit matters for comfort and good technique. Ask your teacher before buying and they’ll point you in the right direction.
Our purpose-built studios are in Thornaby, with free parking at the rear, a bus stop right outside and ground floor access. Violin students come to us from Stockton, Middlesbrough, Yarm, Ingleby Barwick and the surrounding area.
