- Acoustic and electric guitar
- Guitars to use in your lessons
- RGT grade exams through LCM
What your guitar lessons cover
Every lesson is one-to-one and planned around you. Most students start by learning the songs they love, and pick up chords, rhythm, picking and technique along the way. If you want more structure, your teacher will set out a clear plan from first chords to scales, lead playing and improvising.
We teach acoustic and electric guitar, from complete beginners through to intermediate players looking to fill gaps or try a new style.
Guitar lessons for children
Children usually start from around 6. Lessons are short and practical at first, with plenty of songs they recognise, so practice at home doesn’t feel like homework. Waiting family members are welcome in the building while lessons run, and there’s free parking right outside.
Guitar lessons for adults
It’s never too late to start. Many of our adult students are complete beginners, or picking up a guitar again after years away. Evening slots run until 9:30pm, Monday to Thursday, so lessons fit around work.
Grade exams, if you want them
Teesside School of Music is an official London College of Music exam centre, and we teach the RGT electric and acoustic guitar grades. Grades 6 to 8 also carry UCAS points. Exams are entirely optional, and plenty of students simply learn to play for fun.
No guitar yet?
You don’t need to buy one before you start. We have guitars here you can use during lessons, so you can find out what suits you first. When you’re ready to buy, your teacher can advise on a good first instrument.
Easy to get to
We’re on Dukes Way in Thornaby, just off Thornaby Road, with free parking at the rear and a bus stop outside the door. Guitar students travel to us from Stockton, Middlesbrough, Ingleby Barwick, Yarm, Eaglescliffe and across Teesside.
